Cathinka Mæhlum

Through glass art, I bring the inspiration of nature and history to life, where tradition meets modern expression. Each piece is a tribute to craftsmanship and a journey between the past and the present.

A Journey in Glass Art
– where tradition meets modern elegance

In the mystical and ancient universe of glassblowing, where timeless traditions intertwine with modern elegance, I create glass art inspired by the spectacular landscapes of Lofoten. Each piece I shape is a tribute to the history of craftsmanship, where molten glass dances in harmony with the whispers of the past and today’s creative expression.

Each piece I shape is a tribute to the history of craftsmanship, where molten glass dances in harmony with the whispers of the past and today’s creative expression.

My journey into the world of glass art began far from the wild, beautiful landscapes of Lofoten. As a young dreamer, I spent countless hours in my father's workshop in Trondheim, surrounded by the wonders of science and glass ampoules.

It was here that I first experienced the magic of shaping glass – a fascination that has stayed with me ever since.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of learning the craft from some of the most skilled glassblowers, and in the warmth of the furnace, I have found my own path between tradition and innovation. In my studio, the past and present meet in a harmonious dance, and each piece I create carries a part of this journey.

It's not just about glass; it's about bringing something alive to life – a tribute to both history and the modern world.

Inspired by Nature's Canvas: My Tribute to the Beauty of Lofoten

Amid the breathtaking nature of Lofoten, in the charming village of Kabelvåg, I find a sanctuary where the colors of nature's palette dance in vibrant shades. Here, I draw inspiration from the rugged, majestic landscapes, the dreamy light of the midnight sun, and the magical glow of the northern lights.

In the tranquility of mountain hikes and the gentle whispers of nature, I find peace and inspiration. Nature is more than just an influence – it is the very essence of my creative joy and the reason I always feel at home.
